SunUp Brewing Cans on The Dieline

Elizabeth Freeman, contributor to The Dieline, posted The Brandit's packaging design for SunUp Brewing Company's canned products on TheDieline.com. I'm really pumped about this, as I art directed this project from day one, designed the logo, and worked with the illustrator, Mads Berg, to develop these cans.

The press-check process for these products was especially intense. We checked 5 products in a single day, which is quite a challenge, especially when there are only 2 shared colors across all 5 cans. That means there are 22 unique colors to check, way more than one would normally attempt for a single day of press-checking. To make this happen, I went in the day early and hand-sorted through thousands of ink-on-aluminum swatches to pick what would work best together ahead of time. I also picked backups, in case they looked a bit different when covering the can.

Funky Buddha's Hop Gun IPA Label Featured on BeerLabelsInMotion

The animation below was not made by me: it was made by the label animators over at Beer Labels in Motion. If you can't see the live animation go to this link.

Holy... we're... ... We're speechless @beerlabelsinmotion, this is honestly one of the coolest things we've ever seen. Thank you for this awesome tribute and cheers for a million years! #GetFunky #beerstagram #FloridaBeer #Beerlabelsinmotion #amazing #Ifeeltheneed #theneedforspeed

White Street Brewing Co. Packaging Featured on Packaging of the World

Derrick Lin, Packaging of the World Chief Curator, posted The Brandit's packaging design for White Street Brewing Company's Main Street series of products today on the front page of packagingoftheworld.com. This is extremely exciting for me, as I've been working on White Street's brand for over 3 years.

Since these three products, Kolsch, Hoptimist IPA, and Scottish, rolled out in 2014, we've worked on four more brands. Koschei the Deathless was unveiled in 2014, and hopefully you can see some of the other new stuff in the marketplace soon. If you live in Raleigh-Durham, NC you should be able to find all these at any local grocery store.

Work Update Review - March 2016

In an effort to bring this portfolio somewhat up to date, last month saw three project additions to the website: all beer related, and all done with The Brandit. They are...

  • TAPS Fishhouse & Brewery - Reminiscent of a grand old New Orleans or San Francisco brick warehouse, TAPS Fish House & Brewery in Brea Downtown has become a landmark in North Orange County. Inside, warm woods, hand crafted wrought iron and soaring ceilings create a feeling of upscale comfort. The restaurant offers a celebration of seafood and steaks, along with award-winning ales and lagers handcrafted in the European tradition. TAPS has been a client of The Brandit for over a decade, during which time I designed an updated logo, website, and branding suite for their beer products.

  • Funky Buddha Brewery - Funky Buddha Brewery was founded in 2010 in Boca Raton, Florida, and is committed to producing bold craft beers that marry culinary-inspired ingredients with time-honored technique. Their mantra is big, bold flavors, made exactingly with natural ingredients. Flagship beers such as Hop Gun IPA and Floridian Hefeweizen, also strive towards big, bold flavor. The outrageous packaging design and illustration matches Funky Buddha's bold personality.

  • Red Dot Brewhouse - One of my favorite projects to work on since joining The Brandit, Red Dot Brewhouse is Singapore's first locally owned, independent commercial microbrewery. Working with Linda Fennimore for illustration was extremely rewarding, and stitching all the brand components together to build the final product design equally so.
